Levi Boone letter : 1797.

This single item collection contains a letter written to James Taylor by Levi Boone on April 28, 1797. The contents of the letter concern a land dispute between Major Leitch and Levi Boone. Boone was awarded the land in an arbitration hearing conducted by Captain Fowler in conjunction with Boone's brother. Taylor was being asked to award the land to Levi by a conveyence since the land had not yet been turned over to him.

James Taylor, the son of Col. James Taylor, was born on Apr. 19, 1769 in Caroline County, Virginia. He was educated at Rappahannock Academy. In 1788 Taylor was commissioned as surveyor of Caroline County and was made deputy sheriff. He moved to Kentucky in 1792 and settled on the forks between the Licking and Ohio Rivers, founding the town of Newport. He made a fortune in Kentucky land transactions.
